Significant changes leading to quality improvement and availability of medical care for the population are associated with the broad implementation of advanced medical technologies, including medicines and medical devices, into healthcare practice.
Today considerable number of advanced medical devices cannot be adopted in clinical practice due to multiple different factors. Economic and financial aspects are among them: pricing process in healthcare (both for payment for medical services and medical devices procurement), medical devices procurement system for healthcare institutions need to be improved.
Currently new approach is being implemented into healthcare systems in developed countries – Value-Based Healthcare. It is based on direct connection between treatment costs and outcomes, which are of importance for patients. VBH is a logical progression of quality control system for medical care along with implementation of differential approach for its payment. Implementation of VBH makes it possible for manufacturers of qualitative and advanced medical devices to prove their long-term cost-effectiveness and demand among patients.
In relation to the above-mentioned, the decision was made to hold this panel discussion with the aim to study approaches to ensuring availability of advanced technologies and improving medical care quality.
